Mahkesîs Creations - Métis artist

Mahkesîs Creations is a small, woman-run business specialising in handmade jewellery and art. Ellie, the Métis artist behind Mahkesîs Creations has always been an artsy gal. As a child, I spent time with my dad collecting stamps. Having an affinity for small, collectable items never really disappeared. Throughout my teenage years, I continued to dabble in different artistic media from crotcheting to wire wrapping. Having been raised without Métis or Indigenous culture in the home, it was only in my late 20's that I took up Indigenous crafting. While studying Native Studies at the University of Alberta, a land-based course featuring porcupine quillwork was one of many unique and interesting experiences that presented themselves together at the same time. Four years later, I am honoured to share my beadwork with others who appreciate Indigenous art and the jewellery that I craft. Art is a continuous journey of self discovery, and I continue to expand my horizons, experimenting with new media as a well of defining myself and continuing on my life-long journey of (re)connecting with my Indigenous culture.
